At least 16 dead in train collision in northern Greece

85 others injured according to Fire Service representative

WASHINGTON (AA) - At least 16 people were killed when a passenger train and a cargo train collided in the municipality of Elassona in northern Greece, according to reports.

Eighty-five people were also injured, said Vassilis Vathrakogiannis, the representative of the Fire Service, as quoted by Greece's public broadcaster ERT.

According to reports, several carriages came off the rails, and at least three of them caught fire.

At least 30 ambulances were dispatched to the scene.
