HOUSTON, Texas (AA) - At least two students are dead and more than a dozen injured after a school shooting in the US state of Texas.
The shooting occurred at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, about 83 miles (133 kilometers) west of San Antonio.
“There is an active shooter at Robb Elementary. Law enforcement is on site. Your cooperation is needed at this time by not visiting the campus,” the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District said on Twitter immediately after the shooting took place at about noon local time..
Uvalde Police also issued a warning on Facebook saying “ACTIVE POLICE SCENE. AVOID THE AREA.”
Authorities said at least 13 more people were taken to the hospital with injuries.
Police announced on Facebook at about 1 p.m. local that the shooter had been captured.
“Uvalde Update @ 1:06 Shooter is in Police Custody,” it said on Facebook.
