ATHENS (AA) – At least one person died when a migrant boat capsized off southeastern Greece, the Greek Coast Guard said on Thursday in a statement.
Acting on a distress call, coast guard teams found the boat carrying 15 men, 16 women, and 15 minors as well as an unconscious man off the coast of Neo Oitylos in the province of Laconia, the statement added. The unconscious man later died.
Of the surviving irregular migrants, four minors and three women were taken to the Laconia Hospital for medical exams, it said, adding that a preliminary investigation of the incident is being carried out by the Gytheio Port Authority.
