Atalanta remember late Turkish footballer Ahmet Calik

Following Italian Cup match, Atalanta players display white shirt which reads 'Ahmet Calik R.I.P.'

ANKARA (AA) – Italian football team Atalanta on Wednesday remembered Turkish player Ahmet Calik a day after his death in a road accident.

Following an Italian Cup match against Venezia that Atalanta won 2-0, the Bergamo club players in the dressing room including Turkish defender Merih Demiral displayed a white shirt which reads "Ahmet Calik R.I.P.," Demiral said on Twitter.

Winners Atalanta qualified for the quarterfinals in the Italian Cup.

Calik died in a road accident near the Turkish capital Ankara on Tuesday. He was 27.

The defender had played for Genclerbirligi and Galatasaray before he moved to Ittifak Holding Konyaspor in 2020.

He was a two-time Turkish champion with Galatasaray in 2018 and 2019.

Also, Calik helped Galatasaray win a Turkish Cup and Turkish Super Cup.

This season, he had 18 league appearances for Konyaspor.

Calik had eight international caps for Turkiye in 2015-2017.
