AUKUS pact becoming a matter of ‘serious concern’: North Korean state media

Pyongyang questions ‘silence’ of regional nuclear states over ‘reckless US moves’

ISTANBUL (AA) - North Korean state media Thursday called AUKUS, a security partnership between Australia, the UK and the US, a “dangerous” military bloc that has become a “matter of serious concern.”

Under the pact signed in 2021, Australia will get nuclear-powered submarines from the US and the UK. But the AUKUS has drawn sharp rebukes from China and North Korea.

The supply of nuclear submarines to Australia “threatens” regional peace and stability,” the Korea Central News Agency said in its commentary.

While claiming that the US “nuclear stick” would be ineffective in the Asia-Pacific region, it questioned: “Can nuclear states in the region remain a passive onlooker to the US reckless moves?”
