ANKARA (AA) - Australian tennis legend Ashley Cooper died the aged of 83, Australian Tennis Federation confirmed on Friday.
"Ashley was a giant of the game both as a brilliant player and an astute administrator and he will be greatly missed," Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley said in a statement.
Cooper won four Grand Slam championships to include the Australian, Wimbledon, and U.S. single, adding that he had four Grand Slam doubles titles.
Also, he led Australia's Davis Cup team with Mal Anderson and Merv Rose that beat the United States in the Challenge Round at Kooyong of Melbourne in 1957.
The former number-one-ranked passed away after a long illness.
