Authorities in Australia's southeastern Victoria state have asked residents in several areas to immediately leave as bushfires spread, local media reported on Thursday.

Residents of Glenthompson, Kia Ora, Moyston, Stavely, Strathmore, Willaura, Willaura North are being told to leave immediately before conditions become too dangerous, according to ABC News.

The state has been facing bushfires for the last several days which are now out of control.

On Saturday, police also informed the local communities in western Victoria of the threat and urged people to leave immediately, with a fire in the Grampians region more than tripling in size in 24 hours.

While on Wednesday, residents in Adelaide's north, South Australia have also been forced to evacuate their homes during Christmas lunch as a grassfire threatened property there.

The fire started in a rail corridor and spread south amid hot, dry and windy conditions in the suburb of Smithfield.

Meanwhile, police placed a total fire ban across Victoria, as high temperatures and strong winds are expected to create the worst conditions for bushfires seen in years.

The 2019 Australian Black Summer was one of the most intense and catastrophic fire seasons on record in Australia, including a period of bushfires in many parts of Australia, which, due to its unusual intensity, size, duration, and uncontrollable dimension, was considered a mega fire.
