WASHINGTON (AA) - US authorities have contained a massive fire that broke out early Wednesday at a chemical plant in the state of Illinois, according to a statement.
The incident occurred at Carus Chemical Company in the city of La Salle. The fire started in the shipping area of the plant following an explosion, according to multiple reports.
Video footage on social media showed flames coming out of the plant with massive plumes of smoke rising into the sky.
According to an update from La Salle Fire Chief Jerry Janick, there were no reported injuries.
A shelter-in-place remains in effect in the city.
