Azerbaijan, Somalia sign agreements on bilateral cooperation

Presidents of 2 countries witness exchange of key documents

ISTANBUL (AA) - Azerbaijan and Somalia signed a series of agreements on Wednesday to strengthen cooperation in key sectors during a ceremony attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The event, held in Baku, saw the exchange of documents aimed at bolstering bilateral ties in public service, green energy, education, and defense.

Ulvi Mehdiyev, chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations, and Abdihakim Mohamed Yusuf, chief of staff to the Somali president, signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in public service delivery.

In the energy sector, Azerbaijani Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and Somali Minister of Energy and Water Resources Abdullahi Bidhan Warsame signed a memorandum to promote collaboration in green energy initiatives.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and his Somali counterpart Ahmed Moallim Fiqi formalized education cooperation through an agreement facilitating greater educational exchange between the two countries.

In defense, Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov and his Somali counterpart Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur signed an agreement to boost cooperation in defense and the defense industry.

These agreements mark a significant step forward in deepening ties between Azerbaijan and Somalia across strategic sectors.
