Azerbaijani president, Greek premier discuss ties, normalization process between Baku, Yerevan

Noting 'significant role of' Trump, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev underlines significance of Washington meeting in boosting Azerbaijan, Armenia peace talks

ISTANBUL (AA) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis discussed relations Tuesday at UN headquarters in New York, and the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, according to the Azerbaijani Presidency Office.

"Prime Minister Mitsotakis congratulated President Ilham Aliyev on the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the historic meeting held in Washington, stressing the significance of these achievements in strengthening regional peace," it said in a statement.

Expressing gratitude for Mitsotakis' congratulations, Aliyev underscored that Baku is leading peace efforts in the region.

Noting the "significant role of" US President Donald Trump, Aliyev underlined the significance of a Washington meeting in boosting peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

"It was underlined that the agreement reached during the Washington meeting on establishing an unimpeded transport corridor between the main part of Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic holds great importance for regional connectivity," the statement added.

The two sides highlighted the fruitful collaboration between Azerbaijan and Greece in the energy sector, emphasizing the significance of further developing partnerships in trade, economy and tourism, along with reactivating the Intergovernmental Commission’s activities.
