OVIEDO, Spain (AA) - Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and his family were the victims of a violent burglary in their home early Monday morning.

According to Spanish daily El Pais, at least four men snuck into the football player’s home in Castelldefels, near Barcelona, overnight.

The thieves threatened Aubameyang and his wife at gunpoint, forcing them to open the family’s safe.

In the meantime, the criminals assaulted Aubameyang, who reportedly sustained only light injuries.

After eventually getting access to the safe and stealing jewelry, the thieves fled the scene in a white Audi A3. Catalan police are investigating and have not yet confirmed the detention of any suspects.

Aubameyang was born in France and has played for clubs such as AC Milan and Arsenal. He was transferred to Barcelona in February.

According to Catalan daily El Periodico, this is the second time he’s been robbed since living in Spain. The first time, the burglary took place when the house was empty.

The attack comes just days after another new Barca player, Robert Lewandowski, was robbed of a €70,000 ($69,979) watch while signing autographs.

Millionaire football players have indeed become a target of robberies in recent years. In 2019, Spanish police busted a gang dedicated to robbing La Liga players after Karim Benzema, Jordi Alba, Thomas Partey and Casemiro all reported burglaries.
