ANKARA (AA) – Barcelona will temporarily move to a football stadium in Montjuic to spend the 2023-24 season there as their majestic venue Camp Nou was confirmed to be renovated.

"In the 2023/24 season, most of the work (at Camp Nou) would be continued all year round, so the team will play at Montjuic," Barcelona said in a statement on Thursday.

The club stated the renovation work will be carried out during the 2022-23 season as the club members and fans can come to matches normally.

"In the 2024/25 season, work will continue in the Camp Nou, but games can also be played there, albeit with the capacity reduced by approximately 50%. The work would be completed during the 2025/26 season," Barca added.

The renovation work on the stadium will start in June once the 2021-22 football season ends.

Camp Nou, which has a capacity of nearly 99,000 fans, has been Barcelona's home since 1957.

The stadium hosted several matches at the 1982 FIFA World Cup and the 1999 UEFA Champions League final between Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

Man Utd came back from a 1-0 deficit to take a dramatic 2-1 win with the consecutive goals scored in the second half's stoppage time.

Separately in March, Barcelona previously confirmed that the stadium will be renamed Spotify Camp Nou in 2022 as the Spanish club will be sponsored by the famous music streaming service.

Based in Barcelona, Lluis Companys Stadium, the club's temporary home, is an Olympic stadium with a capacity of nearly 60,000 seats.
