Basaksehir lose to Olympiacos, risk UCL adventure

Olympiacos strike lucky in Istanbul to have 1-0 score advantage ahead of second leg at home in Champions League quals

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's Medipol Basaksehir jeopardized UEFA Champions League adventure as they lost to Greece's Olympiacos 1-0 at home on Wednesday evening.

Playing at Fatih Terim Basaksehir Stadium, the Istanbul club were defeated 1-0 to a second half goal by Georgios Masouras who found the net with a header in the 53rd minute of the game.

With both teams failing to score in the first half, Medipol Basaksehir’s Turkish midfielder Irfan Kahveci was sent off with a second yellow card after his hard tackle with a high boot in the 80th minute of the match.

The Istanbul team finished the game with 10 men.

Olympiacos goalkeeper Jose Sa saved Bosnian Edin Visca's penalty at the stoppage time as Medipol Basaksehir lost the game against Olympiacos 1-0.

The second leg will be played next week at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Greece on Aug 13.
