ANKARA (AA) - Galatasaray's fans decided Friday that Dries Mertens will wear the no. 10 jersey during the 2022-23 football season.
Socios.com, Galatasaray's official fan token partner, said Mertens will wear no. 10 for the Istanbul club after fans downloaded the Socios.com app on mobile phones, bought a 1 $GAL Fan Token and cast their votes.
The majority of fans picked no. 10 for the Belgian forward. Other alternatives in the poll were no. 16 and 21.
Mertens, 35, was a longtime player for Napoli from 2013-2022. He played for the Dutch club PSV Eindhoven before going to Napoli.
Moroccan midfielder Belhanda wore no. 10 for Galatasaray in 2017-2021.
Legends Gheorghe Hagi and Wesley Sneijder also wore the number during their stints in Istanbul.
