Biden to host Mexican president July 12: White House

Migration, security, climate, energy among issues 2 leaders will discuss, says spokeswoman

WASHINGTON (AA) - US President Joe Biden will meet his Mexican counterpart Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador at the White House on July 12, spokesman Karine Jean-Pierre said Tuesday.

"The leaders will discuss their efforts to address global challenges, such as food security, and discuss joint competitiveness initiatives, such as work being undertaken in the U.S.-Mexico High-Level Economic Dialogue," Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

"They also plan to discuss their visions for North America, cooperation on migration, joint development efforts in Central America, security, climate and energy, and global issues," she added.

The announcement came hours after Lopez Obrador said at a news conference that he would meet Biden that day, during which the migration crisis will a leading issue to discuss with the US president, rereferring to 50 migrants found dead Monday inside a tractor-trailer in San Antonio, Texas.

A total of 22 of the migrants were Mexican, said the Mexican president.
