WASHINGTON (AA) - A bill Thursday by Democrats to end the US government shutdown failed to win enough votes to pass in the Senate.

By a vote of 47-50, the Senate did not invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to continuing resolution by Democrats.

The Senate is now voting on whether to advance a House-passed measure to fund the government until Nov. 21.
