Automated systems flagged JD Vance’s account as potential impersonation before quick restoration, says company

ISTANBUL (AA) - US Vice President JD Vance's Bluesky account was temporarily suspended shortly after he joined the social media platform and made his first posts Wednesday, TechCrunch reported Thursday.

Vance's account was flagged by the automated systems of the social media service within minutes of his initial posts Wednesday.

The suspension resulted from Bluesky's impersonation detection algorithms designed to flag accounts of public figures due to previous fake accounts targeting high-profile individuals, a Bluesky spokesperson told the American tech publication.

The platform restored Vance's account within minutes and added a verification badge confirming authenticity.

Bluesky has attracted users seeking an alternative to X as some distance themselves from the platform because of owner Elon Musk's political proximity to the Donald Trump administration.

Vance's inaugural message was a standard greeting, followed by commentary on a Supreme Court decision upholding Tennessee's ban on gender-transition procedures for minors and came amid tensions between Musk and Trump.
