Borsa Istanbul up by 0.87% at midweek's open

BIST 100 index earns around 10.5 points from previous close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index opened at 1,220.88 points on Wednesday, increasing 0.87% or 10.47 points from the previous close.

At the previous close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index was up 0.42% at 1,210.41 points -- the highest close since Feb. 6 -- with a daily trading volume of 22.5 billion Turkish liras ($2.85 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped to 7.8480 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), versus 7.8760 at the previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also decreased to 9.3080 from 9.3210, while one British pound traded for 10.2230 Turkish liras, down from 10.2600.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $42.80 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
