ANKARA (AA) – Brentford on Monday signed Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen on free transfer.

"Brentford FC can confirm the signing of Denmark international midfield player Christian Eriksen, subject to international clearance. The 29-year-old signed his contract after completing a medical assessment. He has signed until the end of the 2021/22 season," the English Premier League club said in a statement.

Eriksen has been without a contract since his deal at Inter Milan was terminated in December because of medical issues related to a cardiac arrest he suffered during a EURO 2020 Group B match against Finland in June.

He underwent a successful surgery and was discharged on June 18 last year.

The Danish midfielder has not played any game since his collapse in 2021 summer.

Last week Eriksen started training with his former club Ajax Amsterdam's youth team to improve his fitness.

Eriksen previously played for Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur and Inter.

He was a three-time Dutch champion with Ajax and helped Inter win the 2021 Italian Serie A title.

Eriksen scored 36 goals in 109 international caps for the Danish national team since his debut in 2010.
