LONDON (AA) - UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney on Monday reiterated their support for US President Donald Trump's peace efforts, emphasizing that a settlement with Ukraine must be built rather than imposed.
During a phone call, Starmer and Carney discussed their "unwavering support" for Ukraine, as well as their ongoing efforts to put an end to the killing and the Russia-Ukraine war.
"Both leaders underscored that Ukraine’s future must be one of freedom, sovereignty, and self-determination," according to a statement from the UK premier's office.
It added: "They welcomed continued international efforts, led by President Trump, to bring peace and agreed that this must be built with Ukraine—not imposed upon it."
The two leaders also agreed to continue working closely with Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the coming days, according to the statement.
