LONDON (AA) – British Prime Minister Theresa May has expressed her “shock and sadness” at this weekend’s terror attack in Istanbul in a phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Monday evening.
“The Prime Minister passed on her condolences and utterly condemned the attack, reiterating that the UK stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Turkey against all forms of terrorism,” a statement from May’s office said.
President Erdogan thanked May for her call and both the Prime Minister and the President said they looked forward to their next meeting, according to the statement.
A car bomb explosion and a suicide bomber martyred 44 people, including 36 policemen Saturday evening in Istanbul.
The armed group TAK, an affiliate of the PKK terrorist organization, claimed responsibility for the attacks.
