SOFIA, Bulgaria (AA) – The Bulgarian premier met with the leader of the country's supreme Islamic authority on Monday.
Nikolai Denkov expressed respect for scholars and devout individuals, stating that the Bulgarian state would be a "solid partner" to the Grand Mufti's Office during his visit to Grand Mufti Mustafa Alis Haci.
"We all should contribute to the fight which would lead to a better world," he said.
Haci, for his part, emphasized that Islam in Bulgaria adheres to traditional practices, thereby acting as a barrier to the proliferation of fundamentalism.
He also thanked the premier for the state's assistance in acquiring the building of the Supreme Islamic Institute, which he said will serve as an educational institution for training clerics of the Muslim minority in the country once it is authorized to commence teaching.
