Thailand and Cambodia on Saturday accused each other of opening fire at border posts in disputed areas amid renewed tensions.
Cambodia’s Defense Ministry said Thai forces fired first on Cambodian positions in the An Se region.
"The arrival of the Interim Observer Group (IOT) at the same time as the Thai military began to fire on the Cambodian Army locations by firing several ball guns and handguns to the Cambodian army base in An Se region on the morning of September 27, 2025, at about 11:52 am," it said in a statement, posted on US social media platform Facebook.
However, Thai defense ministry rejected the accusation and said at Chong An Ma area, the "Cambodian forces provoked by firing machine guns and grenade launchers," while they did not retaliate.
"The Thai side confirms that there has been no clash, and no retaliatory actions will be taken, to prevent escalation and maintain peace, guided by logic and the surrounding circumstances," it said.
On July 28, during a trilateral meeting with Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the two neighbors agreed to an unconditional ceasefire following weeks of hostilities.
Both sides later endorsed a 13-point agreement on Aug. 7, which included allowing ASEAN observers to monitor the ceasefire along the contested border.
