AZAZ, Syria (AA) – One person was killed and 11 others were injured in a car bombing in Syria’s northwestern city of Azaz on Sunday.

Abo Ibrahim, a field hospital official, told Anadolu Agency the bombing had struck the western side of the city, which is located in Aleppo’s northern countryside, just 6 kilometers (4 miles) from the Turkish border.

He said people who were critically injured in the attack were sent to Turkey for treatment.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack.

Syria has been wrecked in a vicious civil war since early 2011, when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests -- which erupted as part of the "Arab Spring" uprisings -- with unexpected ferocity.

Since then, more than 400,000 people have been killed and more than 10 million displaced across the war-battered country, according to the UN.
