Casualties reported after blast in south Philippines

Police say 25 reported dead after blast at market in Davao City, where President Rodrigo Duterte served 22 years as mayor

ZAMBOANGA CITY, the Philippines (AA) – An explosion rocked a night market in the Philippines’ southern Davao City on Friday, killing 25 people according to police.

C/Insp. Milgrace Driz of Davao City Police told GMA News that the causalities were reported at the Southern Philippines Medical Center

"We are now locking down Davao City with checkpoints," she said.

Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella was quoted as saying that President Rodrigo Duterte, who served as the city’s mayor for 22 years, had already arrived at the scene of the explosion.
