ISTANBUL (AA) - China has launched a new experimental communications technology satellite from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest Sichuan Province, according to state-run Xinhua news.
The Shiyan-21 satellite lifted off at 6.55 pm Friday (1055GMT) aboard a Long March-3B carrier rocket and successfully entered its designated orbit, it said.
The satellite is intended for use in satellite communications, radio and television broadcasting, data transmission and other related services, as well as for carrying out associated technical tests and validations.
This mission marked the 609th launch in the Long March rocket series.
