ISTANBUL (AA) – China and Mongolia have signed an agreement on establishing the Gashuunsukhait-Gantsmod cross-border railway, Mongolian national news agency Montsame reported.
The link project will be the second railway connection between Mongolia and China since the Zamiin-Uud-Ereen railway that was established under a 1955 agreement.
The agreement was inked after a meeting between Mongolian Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai and his Chinese counterpart Li Qiang in China's northeastern city of Harbin on Friday.
The prime minister said the railway link will double Mongolia's port capacity and increase annual coal sales revenue by $1.5 billion. The construction is expected to start in April.
