ISTANBUL (AA) – China on Saturday raised its flood emergency response to the lowest level in four provincial-level regions ahead of heavy rains brought by Typhoon Matmo.
The Ministry of Water Resources activated a Level-IV emergency flood control response as Matmo is expected to bring heavy rains between Saturday and Sunday across south and southwest China, particularly in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, and Yunnan, state news agency Xinhua reported.
During this period, water levels in multiple local rivers are expected to surpass warning marks.
The ministry urged local authorities to brace for possible flooding, closely monitor the typhoon’s path and rainfall, and issue timely warnings to the public.
It also called for increased patrols and levee protection, as well as heightened vigilance against potential mountain torrents, river flooding, and urban waterlogging to safeguard people and property.
Matmo is the 21st named storm of the 2025 Pacific typhoon season so far.
