ISTANBUL (AA) - China criticized the US on Thursday for announcing export controls on Huawei's Ascend chips and vowed to take action to defend the rights of Chinese companies, state-run Xinhua News reported.

"The United States has abused its export control measures and imposed stricter restrictions on Chinese chip products under unfounded allegations," said Commerce Ministry spokeswoman He Yongqian.

Her remarks came in response to an announcement Tuesday by the US Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security that said the use of Huawei's Ascend chips anywhere in the world violates US export regulations.

He called the announcement a typical case of unilateral “bullying practice,” exposing the US' “protectionist” and “unilateralist” stance.

She said the US move seriously harms Chinese companies' rights, threatens global chip supply chains, violates market rules and disrupts international trade.

He warned that the restrictions could undermine long-term cooperation between Chinese and US firms and urged Washington to correct its actions.
