BEIJING (AA) - Chinese technology firm Tencent posted a net profit of 63.1 billion yuan ($8.9 billion) in the third quarter, marking a 19% increase compared to the same period last year.
The firm's revenues rose by 15% year-on-year in the July-September period to 192.9 billion yuan ($27.1 billion), the firm announced Thursday.
Tencent's revenues from its value-added services (VAS), which include digital games and social networks, rose by 16% to 95.9 billion yuan ($13.5 billion) in the third quarter compared to the same period in 2024, while it generated income of 36.2 billion yuan ($5.1 billion) from online ads, up 21%.
Tencent is known as the company that created and developed WeChat, China's most widely used messaging app and online payment tool that is a mobile platform which serves as a “super-app” for other applications.
The monthly average number of users for the app, known as “Weixin” in China, and its international version reached 1.414 billion as of the end of September.
