ISTANBUL (AA) - China’s President Xi Jinping hosted Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Wednesday for talks on cooperation between the two countries in different fields.
The two sides have signed “key” memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in economic, social, and industrial fields, said the Sri Lankan president, popularly known as AKD, on X.
“China and Sri Lanka have seen fruitful outcomes in high-quality Belt and Road cooperation,” said President Xi of ties with the island nation.
Beijing launched the multitrillion-dollar Belt and Road Initiative in 2013, with investments spanning over 100 countries and international organizations.
This is the first visit since he was elected last year to Beijing by Sri Lanka's president, a known pro-Marxist politician.
