DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (AA) – At least 50 civilians were killed in a suspected U.S.-led coalition airstrike in Syria's eastern province of Deir ez-Zor on Wednesday, according to a local activist.

Three warplanes believed to be from the U.S.-led coalition struck a group of farmers in al-Dablan village in the Daesh-held province, Feras Allawi told Anadolu Agency.

He said cluster bombs were used in the strike, which left many women and children dead.

The activist, however, did not specify the number of the injured.

There was no comment from the U.S. coalition on the report.

Syria has been locked in a devastating conflict since early 2011, when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity, triggering a civil war that killed hundreds of thousands and displaced millions.
