Commodities markets leave behind month of strong selling pressure

Commodities plunged last month due to demand concerns

ISTANBUL (AA) - Commodities markets were weighed down by strong selling pressure in May due to demand concerns.

The US debt limit crisis, uncertainties over the US Federal Reserve, and recession concerns could not prevent selling pressure in commodities markets.

Growing demand for the greenback fueled by strong economic activity in the US and expectations that the Fed might continue to raise interest rates were among the factors that adversely affected the commodity market.

Analysts said sharp declines in commodities markets showed the risk perception and concerns about global economic activity.
