Coronavirus claims 78 more lives in Iraq

Jordan reports 64 new infections, 46 recoveries in past 24 hours

BAGHDAD, AMMAN, Jordan (AA) - Iraq and Jordan continued Wednesday to struggle with the coronavirus outbreak.

Iraq confirmed 3,946 new infections and 78 fatalities in the past 24 hours, according to officials.

The new figures brought total infections to 242,284, including 7,201 deaths and 184,205 recoveries.

No new deaths were reported in Jordan, but the country registered 64 new infections, according to the Health Ministry.

Fifteen people have died from COVID-19 in Jordan, with 2,161 infected and 1,633 patients have recovered.

For a second consecutive week, authorities are imposing a comprehensive ban beginning Friday in Amman and Zarqa governorates, government spokesman Amjad Adaileh told reporters.

The government also decided to resume flights through Queen Alia International Airport beginning Sept. 8 after a monthlong suspension, he said.

The Kingdom has witnessed a decline in the number of COVID-19 cases since the beginning of August.
