Coronavirus delays 3 Taekwondo championships in Europe

Taekwondo Europe postpones all events in March, April, May

ANKARA (AA) - With coronavirus taking its toll on sports events worldwide, the Taekwondo Europe announced on Tuesday that three championships slated for March, April and May have been put off.

"The Open European Para Championships, European Club Championships and the G4 European Championships (Seniors) are being postponed by Taekwondo Europe," it said in a statement on its website.

The governing body said it will do its utmost to organize the event before the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

The virus that emerged in China last December has spread to over 110 countries, infecting more than 113,000 people and killing at least 4,000 others.

Other major sporting events affected due to the epidemic include:


Football

-Swiss football league matches delayed until March 23

-Asian AFC Champions League matches postponed

-Swiss league put on hold until at least March 23

-All Romanian league matches will be played without fans until further notice

Racing

-Thailand Grand Prix and Qatar Grand Prix rescheduled for Oct. 3-4

-2020 Chinese Grand Prix, scheduled for April 19, postponed to unspecified future date

Tennis

- Prestigious Indian Wells tennis tournament, known as the BNP Paribas Open, delayed


Boxing

-Olympic boxing qualifiers for Asia and Oceania moved to Jordan from China

Weightlifting

-Asian Championships, scheduled to take place in Uzbekistan on April 16-25, canceled
