Coronavirus fatalities, infections mount in Latin America

Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Peru report new COVID-19 infection cases, deaths, recoveries

BOGOTA, Colombia (AA) – Countries across Latin America have reported new COVID-19 cases and fatalities, according to official data announced late Wednesday.


- Brazil


At least 373 more people have lost their lives in Brazil, and 11,977 people have been infected over the past 24 hours.

The death toll in the country has risen to 611,851, and the total number of confirmed cases has exceeded 21.97 million, according to the Health Ministry.

The country has, so far, reported over 21.19 million recoveries.


- Mexico


The country has registered 3,836 new COVID-19 cases and 332 fatalities in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

The country of 126 million people has so far recorded more than 3.85 million cases, 291,573 deaths, and over 3.21 million recoveries.


- Colombia


Colombia’s Health Ministry reported 47 more fatalities from the virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 127,912.

The total number of cases surpassed 5.38 million, including 2,257 new infections, with more than 4.87 million recoveries.


- Argentina


According to data from Argentina's Ministry of Health, 1,553 new infections brought the total number of cases to over 5.31 million.

After 19 patients died on the last day, the countrywide death toll has risen to 116,313 people. In a country with a population of nearly 45 million people, more than 5.17 million recoveries have been reported so far.


- Peru


Peru reported 17 fatalities in the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 200,741, according to the country’s Health Ministry.

During the same time period, 783 new coronavirus cases were reported in the country, bringing the total number of cases to over 2.21 million. While more than 2.19 million people have been recovered from the virus.
