Coronavirus infections rise in Eurasia

Belarus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Moldova report recent increases in cases

NUR SULTAN, Kazakhstan (AA) - Cases and fatalities related to the novel coronavirus continued to rise across Eurasia on Sunday.

Health authorities in Belarus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Moldova announced new statistics on the outbreak.

- Belarus

In Belarus, another 921 people were confirmed to have contracted COVID-19, bringing the total to 22,973.

The number of recoveries reached 6,406 and the death toll hit 131.

- Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan, the number of cases increased by 20, bringing the total to 5,076. So far, 31 people have died.

- Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani officials reported 97 new cases of the virus, taking the national tally to 2,519.

The number of recoveries hit 1,657, while the death toll remains 32.

- Uzbekistan

In Uzbekistan, 24 more people contracted the virus, raising the tally to 2,411.

Some 35 people have died, and 1,881 regained health.

- Moldova

Four more people in Moldova died of COVID-19, raising the death toll to 169.

As many as 4,927 cases have been reported so far.
