COPENHAGEN (AA) - Four Czech special forces soldiers have been charged in connection with the 2018 death of an Afghan man who died shortly after being interrogated at a NATO base in Afghanistan, Radio Prague International reported Tuesday.
The victim, Wahidullah Khan, was being questioned by Czech troops at the Shindand base in western Herat province following the fatal shooting of Czech dog handler Tomas Prochazka and the injury of two others. Khan was captured shortly after the incident and later died during interrogation.
According to the report, the Brno Regional Court will handle the high-profile case under special circumstances due to its sensitive nature.
The charges against the soldiers include extortion and failure to obey military orders. “Two soldiers face charges of using violence and disobeying orders; the other two are charged with failing to provide assistance and breaching service rules,” the outlet said.
The interrogation of Khan was reportedly recorded by the soldiers, but the footage was later deleted. Czech authorities were ultimately able to recover the deleted material, which is now part of the investigation.
"The case is being handled under a special tribunal by the Regional Court in Brno; however, full details of the case are still undisclosed," the report said.
