ISLAMABAD (AA) - At least 13 coalminers were killed and four others wounded in a Daesh terrorist attack on Friday in Baghlan province of northern Afghanistan.

The coalmine workers were on their way back home in Tala Wa Barfak district in Baghlan when several terrorists attacked.

Seven workers died on the spot while six others died on the way to hospital, District Governor Faiz Mohammad Amiri told Anadolu Agency.

“Two attackers on a motorbike used an AK 47 rifle, opened fire on the workers and escaped from the scene,” Amiri said.

The district governor lamented on the killing of coalminers and said the terrorists had no religion and no heart but the Afghan nation would fight against them.

Local Afghan media said the coalmine workers who were attacked by Daesh were from the Shia community. However, officials have not commented on this so far.

Baghlan province is located 230-kilometers from Kabul on the Kabul Mazar-e-Sharif highway, and is considered to be one of the industrial provinces of Afghanistan.
