ANKARA (AA) - The death toll from the Camp Fire in the U.S. state of California has climbed to 83, the local sheriff said late Wednesday.

The number of the deaths has risen after search teams found two more bodies in the towns of Paradise and Magalia, Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea told a press briefing.

According to Honea, the rain and mudflows made the process of searching difficult and 563 people are still missing.

Honea also said that the searchers were “working diligently” to identify those killed in the fire and will not take the day off for Thanksgiving on Thursday.

The deadliest wildfire in recorded state history has also destroyed more than 13,500 homes.
