The death toll from a Saturday explosion in the coastal city of Latakia, northwestern Syria, rose to 16, the Syrian Civil Defense said on Sunday.
The explosion occurred when ordnance exploded in a scrap shop on the ground floor of a four-story building in the Al-Raml Al-Janoubi neighborhood, according to state media. The explosion collapsed the building.
The paramedic group said it recovered 16 bodies, including five women and five children, and that 18 others were injured.
