GENEVA (AA) - The destruction of the Kakhovka dam in southern Ukraine jeopardizes the lives of thousands of civilians, the UN humanitarian affairs coordination office said on Tuesday.

"The destruction of the Kakhovka Dam puts thousands of civilians in danger, leaving many with no homes and in dire humanitarian need," OCHA Ukraine said on Twitter.

"Civilians and civilian infrastructure are not a target!" it warned.

Explosions at the Kakhovka hydropower plant near Kherson unleashed floodwaters. Both Moscow and Kyiv have accused each other of the attack.
