Disheartening to see international law no longer binding: Pope

History proves that war does not bring peace, stresses Leo

ATHENS (AA) - Disheartening to see international law no longer binding, said Pope Leo on Thursday.

“It is disheartening to see today that the strength of international law and humanitarian law no longer seems binding, replaced by the presumed right to overpower others," the pontiff said on X.

“This is unworthy and shameful for humanity and for the leaders of nations," he added.

Pope also underlined that history has proved war does not bring peace.

“How can we believe, after centuries of history, that acts of war bring peace and do not turn against those who wage them?” he said.

The pontiff maintained that ”foundations of tomorrow should be laid with cohesion and a shared vision inspired by the common good.”
