ISTANBUL (AA) - A drone attack targeted an oil and petrochemical facility in Russia’s Bashkortostan region, local authorities said on Thursday.

Radiy Khabirov, head of the Russian republic, said in a statement on Telegram that the incident occurred at the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat complex, situated in the city of Salavat, describing it as a “terrorist attack.”

“Two fixed-wing drones attacked the facility. There were no fatalities or injuries,” Khabirov said, adding that security personnel opened fire on the drones.

He said the extent of the damage at the facility was being verified, and efforts were underway to extinguish a fire.

Ukrainian media outlets, including the RBC-Ukraine news agency, reported that long-range drones belonging to the country's Security Service (SBU) targeted the facility, which is about 1,300 kilometers (807 miles) from the front line in eastern Ukraine.
