Education suspended in Sudanese capital ‘indefinitely’

Move comes amid ongoing anti-austerity protests that have rocked several parts of the country

KHARTOUM (AA) - The Sudanese authorities have announced the “indefinite” suspension of all educational activity in capital Khartoum, state-run television reported on Friday.

“The Education Ministry has decided to indefinitely suspend classes at all public, private and foreign schools in Khartoum -- including kindergartens -- starting on Sunday,” state television reported.

The decision comes amid violent demonstrations in several parts of the country against deteriorating economic conditions.

On Thursday, protesters torched several government buildings during demonstrations organized by university students.
