GAZA CITY (AA) - A delegation from Egypt’s General Intelligence Service arrived in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip on Thursday evening via the Beit Hanoun (Erez) border crossing.
According to a Palestinian security source, who spoke to Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity, delegation members will hold talks with Hamas leaders “to discuss a proposed ceasefire with Israel”.
Thursday’s visit follows recent escalations in Gaza between Israel and Gaza-based resistance groups.
On Monday, Israeli warplanes pounded the coastal enclave, which Hamas has governed since 2007, in ostensible retaliation for rockets fired into Israeli territory.
According to the Gaza government’s media office, Israeli warplanes carried out 50 airstrikes across the territory, resulting in considerable material damage and leaving at least 10 Palestinians injured.
