Egypt intelligence delegation arrives in Gaza for talks

Egyptian officials continue their shuttle diplomacy between Israel, Gaza and occupied West Bank

GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) - A delegation from Egypt’s General Intelligence Service (GIS) on Thursday arrived in the blockaded Gaza Strip for talks with Hamas, which has governed the enclave since 2007.

The delegation was reportedly led by Major-General Ahmed Abdel Khaliq, GIS director for Palestine affairs.

The delegation arrived in the Gaza Strip via the Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing linking the strip to southern Israel.

For more than two months, Egyptian officials have engaged in intense shuttle diplomacy between the Gaza Strip, the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Israel.

The stepped-up diplomatic efforts are aimed at hammering out a truce between Israel and Hamas and encouraging reconciliation between Hamas and rival Palestinian faction Fatah.
