Egypt, Iran discuss de-escalation, preventing regional expansion of Gaza conflict

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi receives phone call from his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian

CAIRO/ISTANBUL (AA) - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi reaffirmed his commitment to de-escalating regional tensions and preventing an expansion of the conflict in Gaza in a phone call Monday with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian.

The Egyptian presidency said the Iranian president praised “Egypt’s dedicated efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.”

During the call, Sisi also reaffirmed his commitment “to preventing the expansion of the conflict in the region to ensure stability and security for all its people.”

According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, Pezeshkian also commended Sisi’s “humanitarian stance toward the oppressed Palestinian people and the people of Gaza, as well as his approach to regional issues.”​​​​​​​

“I hope we can further strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and friendship among Islamic countries and that through unity and cohesion, we can adopt more effective positions against oppression and injustice,” he was quoted as saying.
