GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – The Egyptian authorities kept the Rafah border crossing with the blockaded Gaza Strip open for the fourth day on Wednesday.

The Gaza border authority said in a statement the terminal was open in both directions to allow stranded Palestinians and humanitarian cases to cross.

According to the border authority, a total of 1,814 medical patients, students enrolled at foreign universities and foreign residency holders have crossed the terminal in the past three days.

Egyptian authorities, however, barred 122 Palestinians from crossing the terminal, it added.

Fully blockaded by Israel since 2007, when Palestinian resistance movement Hamas wrested control of the territory, the Gaza Strip has seven border crossings linking it to the outside world.

Six of these are controlled by Israel, while the seventh -- at Rafah -- is controlled by Egypt, which has kept the border sealed for the most part since a 2013 military coup against president Mohamed Morsi.
