CAIRO (AA) – Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood group has called on Arab leaders to bridge their differences during their annual summit in Jordan this week.
Arab leaders are scheduled to meet in the Dead Sea in Jordan on Wednesday for their annual summit, amid conflicts ravaging several Arab states as Syria, Yemen and Libya.
In a statement issued Tuesday from the group's London office, the Brotherhood condemned “shedding the blood of Arabs; Muslims and Christians, on Arab lands”.
“This moment should not be a moment of conflict or rift,” the Brotherhood said. “It should be a time for giving back the rights of all whether the ruler or those ruled.”
The Muslim Brotherhood has been the subject of a relentless security crackdown by Egyptian authorities since the military deposed Mohamed Morsi, Egypt’s first freely elected president and a Brotherhood leader, in a 2013 coup.
Since the coup, Egyptian authorities have killed hundreds of supporters of Morsi and his Brotherhood group and jailed thousands.
The group has also been blacklisted as a “terrorist” organization by Egypt's military-backed authorities.
